Clinical Indications
Diagnosis of onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) to confirm fungal etiology before initiating antifungal therapy. Helps distinguish fungal infections from other nail disorders that may appear similar.

Patient Preparation
Do not apply nail polish, antifungal treatments, or nail lacquers for 1-2 weeks before specimen collection if possible. Nails should be clean and dry.
